No, the Aliens Aren’t Invading: That Giant Beam of Light Over Midrand Was Just Us.

If you’ve looked up at the night sky over Midrand, Kyalami, or Centurion on 22 July 2026 and wondered whether sci-fi movies were finally coming to life, you weren’t alone.
Social media was abuzz, theories were circulating, and a few almost prepped for an extraterrestrial visit. But before you call off the search for UFOs, we have a confession to make: It was us.
The Arrival (Better Late Than Never!)
We had a true titan of laser tech pay a visit to the LaserX offices—the KVANT Architect W1500B.
Originally, this powerhouse was supposed to make a grand appearance at Mediatech Africa. However, South African Customs decided to get acquainted with it first. By the time the paperwork cleared and the unit was officially released, Mediatech had wrapped up!
Since the Architect W1500B was sitting right here at our Midrand headquarters, we did what any passionate laser team would do: All relevant permissions in place…… then we took it out for a test drive.
Testing the Beam
Calling the W1500B “bright” is a serious understatement. Designed specifically for outdoor architectural lighting and landmark displays, this sky beam laser shoots lasers so high and piercingly bright into the night atmosphere that it turned heads for kilometres around.
From the Kyalami straight through to Centurion and Sandton, people were stepping onto their balconies asking, “Is Batman calling for help, or are the aliens finally here?”
While we can confirm no extraterrestrials were contacted (that we know of!), the performance of the Architect W1500B was nothing short of extraordinary. The optical clarity, beam tightness, and sheer power showed off exactly why KVANT is a global leader in high-end laser systems.
Until Next Time…
To everyone in Gauteng who spotted the beam and wondered what on earth (or off earth) was happening: thanks for looking up!
We love pushing the limits of laser and visual technology at LaserX. Keep your eyes on the skies—you never know when we’ll test-drive our next sky-high display!
